Cambridge Clara C. Witham, known to most as Bonnie, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. She was the beloved wife of Pastor Calvin G. Witham.Born Saturday, November 14, 1925, in South Berwick, ME, she was the only daughter of Clyde and Dorothy (Frost) Campbell. She grew up and received her education in Rollinsford, NH.Musically gifted, Bonnie was singing with a country and western band when, at the age of 16, she met her husband-to-be “on stage”. They married two years later on September 24, 1944.Bonnie and Cal sang together on radio, television, making recordings and as the opening act for many Grand Ole Opry notables including Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.Their lives took a different path when they attended the Providence Bible Institute. Cal became a pastor in the Baptist Church and Bonnie took on all the associated roles of a pastor’s wife-teaching, counseling, etc.-while raising her family and making beautiful music. The family lived in southern New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts until moving to Cambridge in 1985. She has been a valued member of the Cambridge community ever since.Bonnie was a very talented seamstress making the wedding gowns for her daughters. She did lovely counted cross-stitch and enjoyed scrapbook making. She loved the ocean, especially the rocky New England coast with its beautiful lighthouses.She is predeceased by three brothers, a grandson, Jonathan Witham and two great-grandsons, Dominick and Kain Buell.Along with her husband of 67 years, she is survived by five children, Cheryl D. Ehrlich of Cambridge, Gary L (Gloria) Witham of Quarryville, PA, Jerome aka Jay (Linda) Witham of Cambridge, Juanita L. (Gary) Bardon of Pembroke, MA and Mary Etta (Ed) Grabowski of Westfield, MA; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and their families. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 12 noon at the Whiteside Church, Center Cambridge Road, Cambridge. Friends may call at the church from 11 AM until start of the service.There will be a graveside service on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 1 PM at Fern Hill Cemetery, High Street, Hanson, MA.The family requests memorial donations be made to the Whiteside Church, P. O. Box 25, Cambridge, NY 12816.Bonnie was “the best mother in the world”; a kind, loving woman, who will be greatly missed.
