Buskirk - Harold Bruce Baker, 64, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Pownal, Vermont after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the widower of Shirley Ann Baker, who died September 1, 2011.

Born October 27, 1947 in Hoosick Falls, he was the son of Harold E. and Emma (Brownell) Baker. He grew up on the family farm in South Cambridge and received his education at Cambridge Central School.Bruce joined the United States Army in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War. At the time of his discharge in 1971, he had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and three Overseas Bars.Bruce worked at the Hollingsworth and Vose paper mill in Greenwich, NY for 36 years before he retired.

Bruce and Shirley were married on November 24, 1979.Bruce always enjoyed sports. In his younger years he bowled with his family team, known as the Baker 5. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing with his grandson Zachary. A NY Giants fan, he was very proud of his team.

He is survived by a daughter, Angela L. Oldham (fianc' Jay Simpson) of Pownal and grandson, Zachary Oldham. Other survivors include nine step-children, Keith E. Bruso (Robin) of Valley Falls, Janice Richardson (David) of Stillwater, Kayola Serbalik of Hudson Falls, Joseph Miner (Tammy) of Auburn, Helen Ives (Daryl) of Hudson Falls, Varney Miner (Pat) of Clifton Park, Sherry Keays (Tom) of Greenwich, Bernie Miner, Jr. of Buskirk, Christopher Miner (Lindsay) of Buskirk; two siblings, Sandy Baker (Geoff Woods) of British Columbia and Ronald E. Baker (Donna) of South Cambridge; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends and relatives are invited to call today, Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 3 to 6 PM at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, NY.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the funeral home beginning at 11:30 AM. Burial with military honors will be held at 1:30 PM at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.

The family requests memorial donations be made to VNA Hospice of SVHC, P. O. Box 41, Bennington, VT 05201.
