Troy Helen A. Sorel,87, a former Troy resident, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of Arthur F. Sorel, who died in 1978.
Born Friday, July 4, 1924 in Troy, the daughter of Charles S. and Anna R. (Mallen) Denaker, she was a graduate of St. Patrick's Catholic High School.
Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She loved to cook and enjoyed feeding people. Gardening was a favorite pastime as was "garage sale-ing" with her sister Anna Mae.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church on 5th Avenue for many years.
Helen moved to Easton, NY eighteen months ago, where she was lovingly cared for by her son Bruce and family.
A grandson and four siblings predecease her.
Survivors include four sons, Arthur F. Sorel (Christine) of Hoosick Falls, Charles Sorel of Petersburg, David P. Sorel (Nadine) of White Creek and Bruce E. Sorel (Tina) of Easton; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Denaker of East Greenbush, a devoted godchild, Terry John Steen of Troy and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, NY, from 4 to 7 PM.
A service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, at 9 AM at the funeral home with burial following at St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.
For those wishing to remember Helen in a special way the family suggests donations be made to either: American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org or American Cancr Society at www.cancer.org.
