White Creek - Richard Harvey Smith, 81, of County Route 68, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where he had been a resident for several months. He was the widower of Marjorie Bain Smith, who died in 2006.Born in Hebron on March 20, 1930, he was one of the nine children of John Robert and Bessie L. Hurley Smith. Richard received his education in Salem. He and Marge were married on April 19, 1957. They lived in Greenwich for many years, moving to Center White Creek over 25 years ago.Richard loved farming and worked on several area farms. Before his retirement, he was working at Flomatic Valve in Glens Falls.Richard was an avid fisherman. He especially looked forward to the annual Father’s Day fishing trips to Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed hunting.He is predeceased by two sons, Kevin and David and eight siblings, Kenneth, Leroy, Robert, Alfred, and Gerald (Jake) Smith, Mildred Clark, Marie Bishop and Joyce Clothier.Survivors include four children, Kathaleen Baldwin (Peter) of Eagle Bridge, Randy R. Smith (Harriet) of Battenville, Bruce A. Smith (Tandra), and Brenda Edick (Daniel) of Arlington, Vermont; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their families.Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 4 to 6 at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge.There will be a funeral service at 10 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Kate Kotfilia officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Argyle.For those wishing to remember Richard in a special way, the family suggests donations to Hoosick Falls Health Center, 21 Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, NY , 12090 in appreciation of the wonderful care that he was given.Richard was a gentle, loving man who will be greatly missed.
